What do dealerships do with vehicles that aren’t sold for that model year?
Alright, so it’s 2008. I’m sure there are plenty of brand new 2007 vehicles that were never sold. And, is it too far of a stretch to say that there are 2006 vehicles that were never sold?
I know they always have “blowout sales” to get rid of them, but I’m sure they are left with some that never get sold.
What do car dealerships do with them? Send them back to the manufacturer?

In general they just keep discounting them until they are sold.
If there is a really slow moving model, then that inventory will preclude the dealer from order in new cars, so the manufacturer may offer a rebate or special financing.
The dealer can not return the car.
Also you may have intra-dealer transfers. So if sales are slow in town A and dealer in town B is out of stock, they may take some cars, or have customers request a car and dealer says I can get it from town A and the customer says OK.
Worse case I dealer could have the car for the sales manager and staff, or loaner for repair work.
