what width mower deck is best for cutting large residential yards?
i am considering mowing as a service to offer my landscape
customers and am looking at equipment—i am leaning towards zero turning radius and mulching over bagging
clippings except for leaf season which may call for bagging.
will a 60 inch deck work out or is it too wide?
are you going to have to get into gates? if so 34″ is your best bet. gravely & exmark both have 34″ mowers. it’s not the size of the deck so much as the quality of mower. make sure it has anti-scalping wheels. zturn all the way. shaves off so much time. remember its not just the size of the engine but also the hydro pumps. dont go to lowes or home depot. go to a store that specializes in commerical lawn equipment. they can tell you how to take care of the mower. also, lowes & home depot dont service their stuff. mulching is so much better. most of the cutters down here in louisiana dont bag. mulching does a great job. you can even mulch the leaves. just make sure you buy a quality unit. since you are doing it commerically do not buy a unit meant for a homeowner.
